Nancy: this retirement prank has gone way too far

Last month, we gathered in the canteen to celebrate Nancy. Procrastination isn't the reason I'm a month late writing this post. I think maybe it's denial or maybe I didn't want to get fooled again!

Nancy CakeI went along with the cake and the pictures. I went to the dinner after Nancy's "last day at Hurco" and talked old times, new times, and "what's ahead" times. But I guess I thought (or hoped) this was another one of Nancy's practical jokes. After all, she had pulled this retirement stunt once before! And she had threatened many times...all in good fun...or so I thought.

Here we sit a month later and no Nancy.

Lots of people retire from Hurco so why a special post about Nancy you ask. It's true, we are fortunate to have so many employees who have been here 20+ years (and that's not counting the "boomerangers"...my term for the manyFJ9A9835 people who leave for greener pastures and find their way back home to Hurco again). Even though Nancy was here a mere 10 years, it's safe to say that more people knew Nancy and interacted with Nancy than any other person in the building.

As the receptionist, Nancy was the voice of Hurco, who answered the phone, greeted guests, was the hub of "what's happening" around the office, and loved to laugh! At her cake celebration in the canteen, our HR director asked if anyone had any stories they would like to share about Nancy. Unfortunately, he qualified his request with "HR-appropriate stories"...you could here a pin drop as everyone searched their memories for a funny story from Nancy that was HR-appropriate :)

I miss Nancy's laugh, her wit, her sassy attitude, her stories (especially about her beloved "puppies" and all of the "stuff" that comes with taking care of aging pets), her stylish sense of fashion, and the way she made each day more fun! Thanks for the laughs Nance...don't be a stranger!
